Dear friends,
As you may be aware, and as widely reported on the news, there is rapidly growing “crisis” at the border that involves not only migrant families, but thousands of unaccompanied minors who have come into the US in recent days. The Catholic Church has many organizations that are working in tandem with Homeland Security and FEMA to care for these new arrivals. Many people want to help, but don’t know where to go. Here are some links that will help you become educated and find places you wish to support. Besides donating to a charity, some are asking for advocating to legislators, seeking foster families, and even recruiting volunteers to come and help at the border.
These organizations were recommended by Catholic Charities USA as some of those who are working directly to assist the current situation at the border in a variety of ways. We suggest you check them out, to learn about what is happening at the border and find ways you can act to help.

From the USCCB – besides donating to their fund for Unaccompanied Children, you can apply to be a foster family through their Immigrant and Refugee Foster Care Program:
From Catholic Relief Services – very good information at this site, and on the 2nd link you can sign up for updates on the migration situation from CRS:
My friend Joanna Foote Williams at the Kino Border Initiative recommended The Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project (Arizona) who assists young immigrants with legal issues. I’m also including the website of KBI – they do amazing work in Nogales, Arizona.
Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who are caught in this crisis situation. If you have questions or suggestion, please feel free to contact me at: lkremer@ccsomn.org
