“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace…

Where there is despair, let me bring hope.

 ~St. Francis of Assisi

You probably recognize the above quote as an excerpt from the peace prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. It’s a prayer that grabs your attention.  It touches your heart because of its insights into our human condition.  Who among us has not felt hated or hateful, injured, doubtful, sorrowful, or despairing?

You and I—and countless other people of good faith—have been inspired to bring hope to the hopeless by the life of St. Francis. And, of course, you and I share that with Pope Francis.

In choosing the name Francis, he chose to emulate “the man of poverty, the man of mercy, the man whose acts inspired hope for the poor.” He calls you and me to join with him in serving the poor, the vulnerable, and those on the margins—to be an instrument of hope.

Each day at Catholic Charities our staff and volunteers strive to bring hope to the hopeless throughout southern Minnesota. We serve children, families in crisis, vulnerable adults and seniors, unwed mothers, refugees, the poor, the uninsured, and the unborn.

Our faith inspires us to do this work with joy. Through baptism, we share that faith with you.  Our faith steadfastly calls you and me to affirm that every human life has dignity.  And, I’m sure you’ll agree that our society too often ignores this value.

I invite you to join us in affirming that every human life has dignity and in bringing hope to the hopeless. I invite you to join Catholic Charities’ Spirit Circle.

Spirit Circle members make a gift of $500, $1,000, or $2,000 or more as part of the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal.  (Please stay with me here. It’s more affordable than you might think.)

The Spirit Circle’s goal is to generate a “down payment” on the 38% of our operating budget that comes from our donors. Spirit Circle members are the leadership donors that commit to making that down payment. They are passionate about investing in the lives of those on the margins.

When you join the Spirit Circle you are a sign of:

  • Faith that affirms all lives have dignity, especially the poor and marginalized. In 2015 we served 3,750 individuals residing in 1,960 households, 61% of which had annual incomes at or below $25,000.
  • Hope that cares for the needy throughout southern Minnesota. With offices in Worthington, Mankato, Owatonna, Albert Lea, Austin, Rochester, and Winona we are close to those we serve.
  • Love that embraces all—regardless of age, faith tradition, ethnic background or ability to pay.

Your Spirit Circle investment in Catholic Charities will be used efficiently. Eighty cents of every dollar is spent on operating our programs. Only 20¢ of every dollar goes to administration and fundraising.
